Reading Time: 2 minutes
In this episode of the TTS Talking Early Years Podcast, Alice Sharp is rejoined by Kate Freeman to inspire you with practical ways to extend children’s vocabulary in the Early Years.
Kate explains the reasons why interaction is so key in the early stages of child development. She talks about this not only from a learning perspective but also from a social and emotional perspective, helping children to engage in society, support with their ability to nurture and make connections, as well as express their feelings and emotions.

“Language is the road into everything else”

Alice shares this powerful statement when exploring the role of language in the Early Years. Having the ability to interact with peers and educators from such a young age allows for effective cross-curricular learning. Alice adds that for children to engage in all different types of learning whether it be drawing, science, drama, or physical activity, the very basics of language and being able to communicate is critical.
